Stakeholders in the import and export sectors are urged to lease office spaces at the new 35 storey state-of-the-art Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) building in Dar es Salaam.
The Acting Dar es Salaam port Manager, Hebel Mhanga, told editors who toured the port recently that the structure is about to be completed; “it will be a one-stop centre for all port services and we welcome stakeholders to apply for space.”
He cited that already several institutions have set up their offices at the building including the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA), Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS), Government Chief Chemist as well as the Weights and Measurements Agency.
Mhanga said stakeholders renting at the building will serve to improve services at the port making them more competitive.
“Construction of this building is among measures taken by the government to improve services at the port of Dar es Salaam,” he said.
In his comments, the Chief Executive Officer of the Tanzania International Container Terminal Services (TICTS), Paul Wallace said the building has modern cranes to serve the ever increasing volume of cargo traffic at the port.
“We are ready to serve the port in time and therefore contribute to the ongoing modernisation endeavours at the port,” he noted.
He said the port needs a deep berth that will allow huge ships to anchor as well as good roads and rail network to connect it with neighbouring countries.
“These responsibilities fall under the government and other port stakeholders,” he noted.
He said TICTS continues to improve services in order to contribute to efforts in making the Dar es Salaam port very efficient and the preferred one in the region.
“The port is changing rapidly...there is every reason to invest more,” Wallace added.
