The Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) has received one digital x-ray and one ultra sound machines to boost health services which had deteriorated after the Computerized Tomography (CT) Scanner and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) equipment had broken down again.
In an exclusive interview with The Guardian, MNH Senior Public Relations Officer, Aminiel Aligaesha said that the government had purchased the two radiology machines to boost health services after the two diagnostic devices were out of order for the past two months.
He said the equipment were handed over to the hospital on Monday, adding that the process of repairing the CT-Scan and MRI machines was progressing well.
“We have received two radiology machines to support the process of taking images from patients and at the same time we are continuing with the process of repairing CT-Scanner and MRI to ensure the service resumes on the scheduled time,” he said.
Aligaesha said installation of the Digital X-Ray and Ultra Sound equipment was expected to start this week and soon the service would resume, however he failed to provide the total cost of those equipment, saying that the responsible ministry can reveal the price of the machines.
This paper has witnessed technicians working tirelessly to repair technical glitches and according to one of the field engineers from Phillips, a company commissioned to conduct services of the machines said they were still repairing the CT-Scanner.
He did not comment on the deadline directed by the Chief Secretary Ombeni Sefue who ordered the MNH management to ensure the work was complete within three days from yesterday.
When he visited MNH on Monday, Chief Secretary Ombeni Sefue ordered the management to repair the machines within three days in order to start providing the services to citizens.
MRI machines and CT-Scanner began working immediately after President John Magufuli visited the hospital recently, after operating for few days those machines broke down again due to technical hitches.
