Mwakyembe Joins race, Refutes hate Rumour Against fellow Candidates.

Minister for East African Cooperation Dr Harrison Mwakyembe yesterday picked up  Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Presidential nomination forms, strongly refuting the spreading rumour through social Media that he has vowed  to ensure that one of the CCM presidential hopefuls does  not make it to the State House

He insisted that he has no bones to pick with any of the aspirants and that his decision was based on promoting democracy, increase competition and give the party a wider option to come up with the right candidate.

“It pained me because who am I to make such a statement,” he wondered, explaining  that he reported the matter to the cyber crime department at the police headquarters in Dar es Salaam and the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA).

Dr Mwakyembe said with the support from security organs including TCRA and the police, they were able to arrest some youths proved to be used by one of the presidential aspirants to spread the rumour in various social networks.

He said the youths have confessed to have been ordered by one of the CCM presidential candidate to re-write the original copy of the Richmond Report that was tabled in the National Assembly and post it on various social media.

“I have personally talked to them…I warned them not to tamper with the report as they might end up in jail. They will be taken to court after completion of investigations,” said the EAC Minister.

“As a CCM member I have the right to vie for the Presidency because as a leader I am aware of the opportunities, success and challenges that Tanzanians face today…I have the ability to solve them,” he said promising to use his ability and experience to continue from where the fourth phase government has ended.

So far a total of 37 Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) members have joined the Ikulu race.

Dr Mwakyembe called on Tanzanians not to personalise the Richmond matters because it originated from the National Assembly and the only job he did was to chair the five people committee which was formed to investigate the scandal.

“The report findings belong to the Bunge. We consider them as parliament resolutions…I don’t hate anyone because what I did was pursue my duties as legislator,” said Dr Mwakyembe, adding that it was very unfortunate that a person who was involved in the scandal is his brother.

On the other hand Dr Mwakyembe applauded the fourth phase government saying it has done so many good things especially on the education sector.

According to him, Tanzania’s education sector has improved from primary to university level whereas the number of universities has reached 52.

Meanwhile, one of the presidential aspirants Makongoro Nyerere submitted his nomination forms at the party headquarters in Dodoma yesterday.

Makongoro who is a member of East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) announced a plan to address university students whereas he is expected to conduct meetings at the University of Dar es Salaam, UDOM and St Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT). He said if possible he will also talk to university students in Mbeya and Arusha.

“I am planning to address the public at a rally to be held at Mkendo primary school in Musoma town,” he said without revealing the dates.

He cautioned party members to be aware of some few dishonest and corrupt members who want to own the party. He said CCM is a gift that Tanzanians inherited from the founders of the nation so it cannot be owned by a certain group of people. He insisted that CCM belongs to both farmers and workers.

Makongoro said that his convoy was well received by party officials at district and regional level.

“I have completed the party requirements. I searched for guarantors in 30 regions across the country and got more than 400 supporters in each district. I am now waiting for the party decisions,” he said.
